DFC X Pika Shirt

When a football club (be it big or small) launches a special kit, they usually tend to reach out to various celebrities or big PR agencies, in order to get the most exposure. Not the case here, as Downtown Football Club went with another strategy, one which not even the Pika Shirt content creators did expect. It’s not standard for an American football club to ask Italian creators to present their new shirts.

Both the jersey, as well as the presentation, make up for an amazing experience altogether because as we already know, football is an international way to connect people, not just football players, but also football fans.

It is really great to find out that Blokecore can open the doors to collaborations like this. The DFC staff are familiar with our magazine and we know what amazing kits they can come up with and what great opportunities they tend to offer.

The shirt in question is pink, which in this period is a top color (we mean, Valentino did a whole collection in pink, and of course all the world has been in a Barbie mood for a while now) and this project has an amazing history behind it. Also, the fact that the main brand Umbro is celebrating this year the 100th anniversary is something that deserves a mention.

When MLS launched in 1996, the league pushed a counter-culture narrative on many of the teams. San Jose, for example, adopted a skateboarding and punk rock approach to their brand identity. This association of music, skateboarding, and football resonated with kids growing up in the 1990s.
DFC has long wanted to adopt a similar vibe, and the partnership with Fresno’s favorite record store is making that dream a reality. The partnership sees Ragin’ Records join the DFC family in a sponsorship capacity allowing the club to continue growing and improving while remaining fully committed to local philanthropic initiatives.

In the own words of Jasscel Goce, founder of Pika Shirt: ”I loved this experience. Hope to do it again soon!”. Us too, Jasscel, us too.
